Ten year Jack was a late talker. At first, his mother thought Jack’s language delay was typical of boys “who talk later than girls”, but when he turned 4 years old, and still not speaking in complete sentence, she started getting worried. Jack has now been diagnosed as having receptive and expressive language delays causing “developmental” learning disabilities in classroom setting. Jack has difficulty finding words and often uses them in the wrong place. He prefers to use gestures when talking, and tries to avoid verbal communication as far as possible.
