A Passion for Perfection

Many a times, we find in our day–to-day lives, people expecting others to be perfect in every aspect. What begins as a passion initially, becomes an obsession, subsequently. We can find these people getting upset even over trivial faults.
When I think of the above, I am immediately reminded of my uncle Shankaran, a branch manager of the public sector bank. He was always punctual and hence wouldn’t tolerate his subordinates coming late to office and giving innovative excuses every time. He firmly believed in the dictum, “Better never, than late !!!” Also, everything should be in order at the work place for him. ‘A place for everything and everything in its place’, is what he preached and practiced. Reason why, the subordinates respected him more out of fear, than otherwise.
‘Mr. Perfect’, as he was called, had to send a money order for his village temple festival. The peon had absented himself that day. A man not to trust any others, chose to go to the post office in person and sent the money order all by himself.
Next evening on return from office, my aunt quietly informed him that they had received a money order. To begin with he was surprised but subsequently, felt stupid. He had filled up the money order form wrongly and for once failed to double check. Surely, he must be the only person to have sent the money order to himself !!!!
