There was a time when numerous photographs were lying around in the darkrooms of studios without getting developed into photographs. It was during the digital age all that changed regarding photographs.
It all started 20 years ago when the Image editing software named Photoshop was launched by Adobe. After that Photoshop has changed the entire appearance of photographs. Photoshop has indeed been the greatest inspiration of this digital age.
These days we cannot even imagine a life without Photoshop. It plays a very important role in our lives and its difficult to find a personal computer without this software. All colour labs and other professional institutions rely on this software for all their works.
History of Adobe Photoshop
 
The first edition of Photoshop was launched on 19th February, 1990. But the actual story of this software started in 1987, when Thomas Knoll developed Pixel editing software called ‘Display’. But the display programme did not become popular due to its limitations. It could only modify black and white images into grayscale. But it became the foundation to develop Photoshop.
Soon Thomas Knoll along with his brother John Knoll incorporated more processing features and improved it. In 1988 Adobe Inc. got the license to launch the software and changed the name to Adobe Photoshop and launched it officially on 19th February, 1990.
After that Photoshop became the most popular image editing software. It uses various layers to edit an image which appeared in the third version of the software and the use of healing brush to make corrections was made available in the 7the version. According to Adobe, over a million people use this software for various purposes.
Photoshop has transformed the world. To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of this magnificient software Adobe is planning to conduct various programmes all around the world.
 
Photoshop has played different roles
20 years back Thomas Knol predicted that in 20 years 500 copies of this software will be sold. But his predictions were wrong. Infact millions of this software copies have been sold so far and has become huge success in a few years time. “Photoshop has played different roles in the last 20 years of its inception.” Says Shantanu Narayan, Adobe’s President and CEO. He further states that

 “It has become a magical tool in the hands of talented people.”
