* Read the passage to identify the writer's purpose.
* Identify he central idea.Concentrate in it.
* Analyse the structure of the passage.
* Outline the passage.
* Underline the main idea.
* Write one sentence summaries for each stage of thought.
* Use your own words.
* If in case you have to use authors words , enclose them within quotes.
* Write the first draft 4-5 words in each line for ease in counting.
* Eliminate repetitions, details and personal opinions.
* Insert transitional expressions and phrases to avoid choppiness.
* Remember that the summary has to be complete,brief,accurate and objective.
* Do not stick onto minor details.
* Do not plagiarize .
* Do not miss out important parts to make summary short.
* Check against the original for completeness, accuracy and balance.
* Recheck for grammatical errors.
* Write out the final copy.
